News Room - Voccio to run for PA House
JOHNSTOWN, PA - Chris Voccio, former publisher of The Tribune-Democrat and Johnstown Magazine, announced today that he is launching a campaign for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives 72nd district seat currently held by Rep. Tom Yewcic.
Voccio, 40, of Upper Yoder Township, announced he is preparing a campaign now and will begin the petition process for ballot access on January 22nd. Yewcic announced in November he will retire at the end of the current term.
The announcements were made at two stops in the district, at the Arcadia Theater in Windber, where Voccio once served on the board of directors, and the Comfort Inn in Ebensburg. He also made an announcement at the Holiday Inn in downtown Johnstown, pointing out that while downtown is not part of the 72nd district, the ramifications of the election will extend beyond the district boundaries and many people from the district work in downtown Johnstown.
Voccio left The Tribune-Democrat in mid-October to start his own publishing company, Keystone Publishing Development Company. He publishes a monthly political newspaper "This campaign will not be about political parties," Voccio said. "Frankly, the stakes are too high for partisan politics. This campaign is about bringing positive leadership and a new voice to Harrisburg."
Voccio, pointing to the fact that Johnstown's two seats in the House are being vacated by their incumbents, said, "...both of these elections will have regional importance extending far beyond their respective district boundaries. The outcome of both elections will have significant impact on the region for years, perhaps decades, to come."
Emphasizing the importance of not sending career politicos to Harrisburg, he said, "We cannot afford to be sentenced to twenty or thirty years of continued stagnation while good-natured politicians collect their salaries and wait for their taxpayer-funded pensions to kick in."
His campaign Website is up and running at www.ChrisVoccio.com.
