The smoking lamp is on 4/4/2008
If you didn’t attend last night’s candidate forum at Windber Area High School, you missed a great event.
The Tribune-Democrat and WJAC-TV did a great job in producing this worthwhile forum. (You can see it on WJAC’s Website.)
One of the questions was whether the candidates would approve of a statewide ban on smoking in restaurants and bars. One of the candidates said he would approve such a measure, while his dad, who owns such an establishment, disagrees.
I’m with his dad.
This is still America, home of free association and choice. While I have never smoked and find it repulsive, the last thing we need is do-gooders in Harrisburg imposing their wishes on the rest of us.
If I don’t like the atmosphere in a particular establishment (whether it’s because of smoke, noise, or anything else) I can get up and walk out, taking my money with me. Some other restauranteur will profit from my decision.
Let’s tell the nanny-state to back off. We’re adults and we can make decisions for ourselves.
