An example of bureaucratic blues 1/6/2008
The Tribune-Democrat is reporting this morning that a Manhattan-based company (Sithe Global Power LLC) wants to build a $900 million waste-coal-burning power plant in Shade Township.
The plant would not only produce much-needed power, it would also help with the mine drainage problem. Best of all, the plant could eventually employee up to 1,200 workers.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that the company has to go through a lengthy permitting process that the T-D reports could include as many as 25 bureacratic approvals.
Thankfully, this company appears to be willing to jump over the 25 hurdles.
My campaign is about reducing the number of hurdles that job-creating businesses need to get before hiring people. Sure, we need some permitting process, but things have gotten out of hand.
